Veiled History Untold

$760.00

I like to incorporate women’s untold stories into my landscapes. Not an easy thing to do which is why I often select materials such as, lettering, lace and stitching. I use these as they are the skills that women often had in the past (probably even if they didn’t like learning them). But they are skills that were taken for granted and completely undervalued in the past.

A landscape painting inspired by the complex interplay between natural beauty and the scars of colonial impact. My technique blends traditional painting with modern elements to evoke a sense of both harmony and discord, reflecting the intertwined histories and experiences within the Australian landscape.

As usual I have made my own charcoal to use in this painting. Making charcoal, even though it is fun, is reminiscent of a domestic duty - like cooking (of which I would do anything to avoid- well not anything- but you know what I mean.)
